General FAQs

How can virtual reality be used in retail?

Virtual reality in retail is used to create realistic consumer shopping experiences and lab environments where brands or retailers can build, plan, and test innovations. There are many organizations currently incorporating VR to improve their in-store experiences, establishing virtual stores for consumers to shop, and utilizing virtual retail labs for retail innovation. As virtual reality technology advances and the required hardware becomes more accessible to the public, it will likely become even more relevant in retail through the introduction of v-commerce shopping. V-commerce is similar to e-commerce because it is remote shopping over the internet, but it incorporates the in-store experience through consumers navigating a virtual store like they would in-person.

Is the typical retailer ready for VR?

As technology continues to advance rapidly and consumer preferences change faster than ever before, there is no better time for retailers to begin incorporating VR technology into their business strategy. Many of today's top manufacturers and retailers are already utilizing VR in retail processes for planning and testing, as it requires less resource investment and provides more efficient analytics and data than most traditional methods used in the physical world. Early adopters of retail virtual reality practices are actually setting themselves up for success as it is expected that eventually VR will radically influence customer experiences in the future and become the next form of digital commerce.
